Never loose another blanket again

With the weather being so cold one thing I never leave the house with now is our Secure2Me blanket. What makes this blanket different from most is the 4 clips secured to each corner that can clip to your child's stroller, car seat, baby carrier or almost anywhere you might need it and it fits little ones from newborn to preschool. I love the clips because this ensures that I will never loose another blanket again while out in public or will never end up dragging L's blanket under the stroller wheel for blocks until it is ruined, ugh. We have the Blue Bon Bon blanket which is a very super plush minky one made of two different but equally soft minky fabrics. This makes it especially great for cold weather but they do have some other fabric options for varying types of weather. (We are very curious about their solar-veil blankets that keep the sun out while still keeping your little one cool for warmer weather or climates.) L loves the Secure2Me blanket and even will tuck it into our diaper bag before leaving the house if it somehow got taken out and not put back in. He is a huge fan of minky so I'm sure it's one of the many reasons he loves this blanket. Secure2Me blankets are made in the US and come with a variety of fabric options of different patterns and colors. They also have a larger option for those with special needs in a wheelchair. Our blanket has gotten a lot of use and been through many trips through the washer and dryer and still looks as good as the day we received it.
Check out the US based Secure2Me website to get your own blanket now, they ship to both US and Canada.

Klean Kanteen

With all the fuss about BPA in kids bottles and sippie cups, it's great to know there are some safe alternatives in the market. Personally I have chosen to steer clear of the plastic ones even though some claim to be BPA free. Right now we are big advocates of the stainless steel products on the market and over the next little while we plan on telling you about a few.

Up first is the first stainless steel sippie we reviewed and so far our favorite, the Klean Kanteen. We have Klean Kanteen's 12 oz sippie cups for L and also an 18 oz with a sports cap for C but it's also sometimes used by the daddy or myself. The Klean Kanteen's being stainless steel use very little plastic in their design, the only plastic being the spouts but it is made of a safe BPA free plastic. The actual spout for the sippie is an Advent spout and the sippie comes with 2 spouts, not just one. The Klean Kanteen sippie rarely leaks though like most other sippie's there is the odd leak but it by far is the least leaky of many of the cups we have used over the years. C has not complained of any leakage from the sports cap and he brings it to school in his backpack on a regular basis. If you do plan on getting your family some be sure to order a sleeve for your kanteen though as since they are only single-walled they can become quite cold to the touch with a liquid in them. They are also only for cold liquids and not hot. Another great thing about these bottles is that the have interchangeable lids to suit your need and the lids can also be purchased separately. When L grows out of the sippie cup faze I can just purchase more sports caps and we are good to go. Klean Kanteen's are also dishwasher friendly though they do suggest you not wash the caps in the dishwasher in case water gets into the lid, but we wash our sippie lids and sports cap in the dishwasher and haven't had any problems. With a one year guarantee on their bottles, caps and lids you can't go wrong by trying these babies out. I personally was so impressed with our Klean Kanteen's that when they came out with the colors I picked up two more sippies when I found a great deal online. Now I just need to find a sale on sports caps. ;)

Klean Kanteens range in price from @ $20.00 CAD and up. Wanna get your own Klean Kanteen? In the US you can shop at their online store or in Canada at Naturalpod.ca, they are on sale their too right now! (or check our their store locator for a store near you)

A gift made just for them

Baby L recently received the most adorable personalized book from Frecklebox. The Nature Namebook is just gorgeous from cover to cover, seriously how gorgeous is this cover? This is sweet little book would be terrific for little ones learning how to spell their name, since baby L just recently learned how to say his own name he is fascinated with this book. With every turn of the page there is a new photo from the outdoors with either leaves, to the park, the beach, the sand, with bugs, birds, rocks, stars etc. On every second page your child's names is spelled out in a magical way. This book is a big hit on our house and everyone just loves it, I think I may even love it more that baby L. Frecklebox also has many other personalized books to choose from and the great thing about their website is that you can view a sample of each book to see if it's what you are looking for. If a book doesn't suit your fancy they also have personalized coloring books, puzzles, posters, journals, place mats, growth charts and party favors.
Frecklebox's personalized books retail for $19.95US for soft cover and $34.95US for hard cover. Head on over to their e-store right now and pick something out for that special little one in your life, they are US based but they ship to both the US and Canada.

Potty Time Reading

We are still deep into the potty learning trenches here at Baby Let's Shop. We have gone for a very relaxed approach with Baby L which is why it's taking so long. We are letting him lead the way and we're loving this approach a lot more than the approach we took with preteen C when he was little. We won't go into details but lets just say either way your child will go when he is ready not when you are. You've read our glowing review on the Baby Bjorn potties we own what else do we have up our potty learning sleeve? As you know we are big book fans here and what potty session would be complete without some reading material. Here are the titles we currently have in our potty time basket.

Diapers Are Not Forever by Elizabeth Verdick- we have talked to you before about Elizabeth's great line of books from her Best Behavior Series. This book talks about getting bigger and learning to use the potty, it discusses how both girls and boys use the potty and how proud your family will be when you master the potty.

Once Upon A Potty by Alona Frankel
- This is a true favorite of mine, we owned the movie with preteen C. We now own the board book, dvd and book on cd. This book comes in two versions, girl and boy. The girl version is about a girl names Prudence and the boy version is about a boy named Joshua. This books teaches your little one all about the different parts of their body and what they are for, some parents might think certain body parts are a little much but I think it's cute and very natural. In the story Joshua's grandmother buys him a potty and he tries to figure out what it is. It talks about diapers and diaper changes and learning to use the potty. The only thing that irks me in this book is the use of the words "wee wee and poo poo" We like to use correct words for things in our home and not cute names.

Potties by Stuart Trotter
- This little hard covered book has waterproof pages that wipe right off. It's supposed to be for the removable stickers that come with it but since ours was a thrift store find we got no stickers which is just as well. There is no real story line to this book, just a lot of colorful pages with a potty on each one "big potty, little potty, pirate potty, princess potty". It's a fun little read while sitting on the potty.

My Potty Book (A Potty Book for Little Boys)
- a book about a little boy named Jack who is discovering what his potty is for and about learning to use it. Another sweet book that was a thrift store find.

Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi
- This award winning book is a must have for little ones obsessed with poop like L is. L constantly talks about poop and blaming his poops on everyone else from C to daddy to the cat. This book is not for the easily offended as there is poop on every page, big poop, little poop, messy poop, it's got it all. It discusses various animals who poop and how they poop. A great book if you can handle the poop talk, living with boys I am used to poop talk so I loved it.

Last but not least we own The Potty Caddy. The Potty Caddy is a handy little box with a handle for toting around where you need it most. The box has a magnetic closure and a see through viewing window, inside our fabulous little magazines like "Tots Illustrated, Rolling Stroller, Babies Quarterly and Vanity Fairy", The Potty Caddy book, a roll of toilet paper on it's own dispenser, targets, potty chart and stickers and a parents guide. Baby L loves the caddy and sometimes just sits on the potty just to explore the caddy's contents. The Potty Caddy book is sweet and silly, but it's a great illustrated guide to peeing and pooping on the potty filled with how to's and great questions and answers that your toddler might have about potty learning.

Check out Amazon in the US or Chapters.Indigo in Canada or your nearest book stores for any of these great books. Be sure to leave us a comment and let us know what's in your potty basket, we're dying to know.

Back from haitus....did you miss us?

Hey readers! We are finally back from our long winter haitus. I'd like to tell you we went somewhere fabulous and warm that has kept us from updating but unfortunately we went nowhere and the only thing that has kept us from updates has been the holidays, out of town guests, the flu, a car crash and yup more of the flu. Over all it has been a pretty eventful break, and a LOT of puke. We hope to bang out a few reviews this week and hopefully in the next few weeks get all caught up. In the mean time if you are at all curious about how we live and would like a little sneak peak into out home check out my newest obsession Flickr.
